Middle School Technology Institute
The Summer Middle School Tech Institute (MSTI) is a week-long program that engages local middle school students in STEM through hands-on activities and inquiry-based learning projects. Each summer for the past 17 years, MSTI has welcomed middle schoolers from across the region, exciting them about STEM with courses such as “Got an App for That?” and “Reinventing the Wheel”. The Institute also gives students a taste of life at TJ and encourages interested middle-schoolers to apply.
Thanks to the support of our corporate sponsors, MSTI is accessible to even more middle-school students. Scholarships provided by corporate sponsors enable students from low-income families and underrepresented populations to attend MSTI at no cost. Northrup Grumman has lent its support to the program for the past 6 years, providing scholarships to 100 seventh- and eighth-grade students each summer. The support of INCOSE and the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation has also granted more middle-school students the opportunity to attend MSTI.
