High School Science and Engineering Institute

When the Campaign for TJ concluded in 2017, the TJ administration and the TJPF worked together to develop a strategy for leveraging the school’s newly-renovated facilities and extraordinary resources to reach the broader community. The High School Research Institute (HSRI) was born from this collaboration to give high school students, particularly those not attending TJ, access to TJ’s cutting-edge tools and technologies. HSRI Courses deepen students’ understanding of STEM by giving them access to state-of-the-art equipment and experienced STEM educators. Students also gain valuable research skills through their time at HSRI -- skills that they carry with them to the classroom and beyond.

As part of its outreach mission, the TJPF awarded a $30,000 grant to the High School Research Institute to help jumpstart the program. Now, the PF is actively engaged in pursuing corporate sponsorships to ensure local high school students continue to have access to this rewarding opportunity.

If you are interested in becoming a corporate sponsor or would like more information about the High School Research Institute, please email Jane Ritt, STEM Outreach and Administrative Coordinator, at jritt@fcps.edu.
