TJ 2.0: JCIRN Workshop
TJ is building a collaborative research network and needs network expertise.
In July we held an all-day workshop at a Microsoft Conference Center - a brainstorming session with 40 participants in the IT industry. Aneesh Chopra, U.S. CTO, Cameron Evans, Microsoft CTO, and Vint Cerf, Google's Chief Internet Evangelist, spoke at our TJ2.0 Design the Future Workshop.
We heard hundreds of creative ideas on technology infrastructure to position TJ to support STEM education initiatives and develop into an educational 'hub' of advanced research within the region and nationally.
Out of that session emerged the plan to build a collaborative research network we are calling JCIRN - Jefferson Collaborative Inquiry Research Network, to give students face-to-face virtual access to an alliance of researchers and data beyond the walls of TJ.
With our future network, nearly every classroom will have a face-to-face connection to another part of the country or the world. Systems Lab students could discuss and update cybersecurity data virtually with fellow researchers at MIT. From the Astronomy, Energy Systems, Biotech and Neuroscience Labs, for example, TJ students would be able to mentor via telepresence elementary and middle school students across the country. Our successful mentoring program has inspired innovative new technology and scientific discoveries, which could scale exponentially.
We welcome any ideas to reach TJ's vision and potential. If you or your friends have experience with Network Architecture, Network Security or Network Account Management, please help us build this future strategic network that will for decades enhance learning and deliver innovation.
